Architectural Synaesthesia - Prof. M. Schaut and Prof. D. Bucsescu

4. To give an unrehearsed response to (a question).

Alex:

I assume that your source for the word definition was some dictionary.
I find this 4th variation in defining the word "field" a bit strange.

I don't understand it.

Can you explain ? It has all kinds of implications
about learning, poetics and politics of art and life

I chose to include this definition because of its implications about providing an improptu, or unrehearsed, response. Providing a response implies a certain amount of decisiveness and when the response is unrehearsed, it must be formulated quickly based on immediate knowledge. However the response may later prove to be in need of revision.

Thus in building the site model, there is a declaration of what I think it needs to be, but as the project evolves I may discover that my original site model is no longer fully adequate. Through the implications of this fourth definition, the problem of building a site model before any thought has been given to design becomes one of building a site model that looks finished but is easily ammendable. If too much decisiveness is placed on the construction of the site model now, there is a high risk of paying for it later, mostly in terms of lost time.
