I'm not sure if this will help you out right now, but i forgot about it until your presentation. It may be a little to technical at this point in the project but take it for what it's worth. (Performative techniques maybe)

A couple years ago i entered a competition that dealt with the manipulaiton of light. I used optical filters that dealt with the angle of incidence. The filters have a specific coating on them, so that when the angle of incidence in increased or decreased the color of the light reflected changes. So if an object in reflected nearly perpindicular to the face of the filter, it will appear green, while if the angle is more like 10 or 20 degrees it appears purple. The intensity of the color also changes along the entire range from 0 to 90 degrees. It may help you manipulate space with relfections in color. Enjoy!
