I found myself looking at this pair of photographs for quite a while. For me the tone and texture of the photographs really imply an atmosphere that reaches beyond the view of the camera. As a film maker I would assume this was a goal of Tarkovsky, to engage his viewers in the world of his films in such a way that they can imagine the action taking place in a realm that spans beyond the spaces shown in the images of the film.
Marc, if possible could you bring this book into class? Thanks.
