I apologize for not being in class today - I have fallen ill- however here's my progress and I'll add another post with further text
The colors on my image posted turned out awful and inaccurate and I can't figure out how to make it better - they'll have to do for now.

PROGRAM STATEMENT:
The Displacement Center/Orphanage is dedicated to creating an environment of security and safety and will nurture the needs of children having gone through trauma be it war, abuse, or abandonment. More on synaesthetic relationships when discussing displacement.
On the site: the areas pertaining to the program have been organized from the outside to within in this order (schematically): administrative outside - learning areas - living/sleeping quarters - healing - innermost. These are diagrammatic 'zones' if you like for now. My drawings at this point are gestural - dealing with massing and the location of programs.

QUALITATIVE DESCRIPTION:
Safe, comforting environment- dealing with sand, water, light (lots of light and water- soothing sea - waves...sand > sandbox - earth)
another ex: having the kitchen close to the dormitories so they can smell the food - the comfort of having food - the luxury of it the security and the absence of hunger.

QUANTITATIVE PROGRAM:
the size I'm still unsure of because after listing these program requirements the project just ballooned to a whole new scale:
- Administrative: will have offices for all depts of the center as well as an adoption service center and a conference room/center.
- Learning: will include: classrooms, a library, auditorium and playroom and playground.
- Living: dorms - sleeping quarters, kitchen and dining hall.
- Healing: counseling, doctors (psychologists), school nurse

More on my program statement:
With this program I'm attempting to deal with the mirror - the issues of permeability - borders (both physical and visual), transgressions and the safety element of staying within (on, in, thru the mirror). Also issues of reflection and identity with the mirror are being paid attention to.
I have looked up definitions for embassy, orphan/orphanage, and displacement. The text would be too long to list now so here are a few one-liners:
EMBASSY: from Gaulic ambactos: one going around, travelling; send a delegate. ORPHAN: from Grk - orphanos - bereaved; destitute, abandoned, lacking protection, sponsorship and affiliation.
The orphanage will attempt metaphorically to change the state of distress synaesthetically (cross-wire the nature of this abandoned, forlorn, distressed state) to a more secure, nurturing one.
Displacement as of now means the distance of an oscillating body from its central position or point of equilibrium (stability, safety, security) - think of the role of the mirror qualities in this case*
In terms of psychoanalysis it is a defense mechanism in which there is an unconscious shift of emotions, affect or desires from the original object to a more acceptable or immediate substitute.
With regard to the state of the child: The child goes through different stages of emotion meaning they pass through different SPACES on their JOURNEY. Spaces characterized by emotion, reactions, thoughts, even confusion and clarity - revelation/realization. My goal is to understand these stages and figure out how to channel a positive journey for the child - healing.
I am attempting to create a condition in which the crosswiring synaesthetic qualities may provide a healthy displacement. I am not too sure of the psychological implications or risks of this. I'm going to have to research a bit more on child psychology and trauma situations.

I forgot to add that I ran across a book by the Danish author Hoeg who wrote a novel based on a reform school where abused/orphaned children are kept and they suspect that they are part of a social experiment. It's a thriller of sorts. Amazingly enough its called Borderliners.
